History of the lookout tower

The lookout tower was built in 1904 as the "Victory Lookout Tower" in memory of those who fell in the war of 1870–1871. In 1933 it was renamed the Bismarck Tower. The project was led by Johann Gräbner, and the construction work was carried out by the Diroll company. The tower has become a symbol of peace, sacrifice and patriotism. It is currently closed to the public.

Architecture and design

The massive sandstone prismatic tower is topped by a battlement supported by a cantilevered cornice. The entrance is reinforced with buttresses and decorated with the city emblem and the year 1903. Inside there is a wooden hanging staircase with a total of 100 steps. The tower acts as a peaceful dominant in the city panorama.
