History of the lookout tower

The lookout tower was built on Háj Hill in 1904 in honor of Otto von Bismarck. The design was created by the famous architect Wilhelm Kreis. The building stands out for its massiveness and stylistic connection to the so-called Bismarck columns. The tower was also celebrated in its time with a light signal – a fire bowl lit during celebrations. Today it is a monument and a popular tourist destination.

Architecture and design

The tower is built of rough granite masonry in the Cyclopean style. The square ground plan with massive rounded corners transitions into a circular floor topped with a stone conical roof. The interior hides a spiral staircase with 122 steps and an upper gallery with a beautiful panorama. The aedicule with a portal at the entrance is also interesting.
