History of the lookout tower

The tower was inaugurated on October 28, 1900. It was designed by Wilhelm Thurm and built by the firm Golle & Kruschwitz. The tower was inspired by the standard model of the Bismarck columns. The original fireplace was removed due to damage, but the metal brackets were preserved. The building is a monument to the collective efforts of the people of Vogtland.

Architecture and design

The tower has a massive square base and a cylindrical shaft in the shape of a truncated cone. A stone spiral staircase (62 steps) leads to the lower platform, an iron staircase (18 steps) and a ladder staircase (23 steps) to the upper one. The walls are made of granite blocks in cyclopean masonry, the facade is decorated with a carved coat of arms and commemorative plaques.
